We aim to create sustainably, produce ethically & practice responsible processes.
Using high quality recycled metals, all Flash Jewellery is consciously handmade by skilled artisans in small batches. We work closely with our manufacturers who are a part of the Responsible Jewellery Council.
We create in recycled 925 sterling silver, 14k gold Vermeil & solid 9k gold - preserving what materials are already on offer and not contributing to mining earth's resources.
Vermeil is a benchmark of quality. 'Vermeil is different from regular ‘gold plated jewellery’ as to be legally called ‘vermeil’, or considered as ‘true vermeil’ it has to comply with US standards:
1) The base metal must be pure silver or 925 sterling silver
2) Gold plate needs to be 2.5 microns thick or higher
3) Gold karat needs to be 10k or higher
We produce in recycled 925 sterling silver with a gold overlay of 14k gold. All our jewellery is plated in a minimum of 2.5 microns - depending on the piece up to 4 microns are used.
We use recycled 14k gold for the majority of pieces in our collections. 14k gold contains 58.6% gold with a 41.4% alloy content (our jewellery does not contain nickel). The addition of alloy increases the hardness of the gold & makes it perfect for jewellery - durable & able to withstand wear, whilst retaining a beautiful, soft colouring.
We are very fortunate to work closely with our manufacturers in India. Machinery & technology available to them means that regular testing of precious metal and gold plate thickness can be carried out, in turn ensuring that we continue to produce quality pieces that meet industry standards and last a lifetime.
As a small business we continue to every day make conscious decisions and choices that echo our core values & ethos. Understanding our impact as both producer & consumer, read more about our Responsibility & Sustainability practices here.
